Joy said “We have a 6 ft. tall carpet-covered tube with holes and platforms in it for our cats to sit on and look out of the windows. It also acts as a scratching pad when they’re tired of using the chairs in the dining room. This is a watercolour painting of one of our long-gone (but still remembered with love) Siamese cats which greets me every day in an upstairs wall.”

Joy has chosen a pose and a composition that definitely makes this siamese the star of the show. The overlapping of the red arch and the pose of the legs and feet push the cat into the foreground spatially and the pronounced highlight of the fur is also a factor in establishing this portrait subject.
