This portrait was painted for a neighbour in loving memory of a son who passed away long before his time. Joy’s was very kind an empathetic in all ways and this painting has that kind of compassionate quality in its brushstrokes. The lad is gone but appears to be transported to a very thoughtful place in his demeanor. His eyes are focused on ‘the forever’ distance with nothing much in the composition to deter from that reality.
