Karin Eaton is a fellow South African and this is her portrait painted at least in part on the grounds of the old offices of The Scarborough Arts Council on Kingston Road. Both Karin and Joy enjoyed a great sense of humour and that feeling is conveyed here in the happy and confident smile of an arts leader. There are few of Joy’s portraits that provide any kind of substantial depth in their background but this is one of them with a a definite background of the famous Scarborough Bluffs. It’s appropriate as the arts council’s office sat on a large piece of acreage rolling down to the edge of those cliffs. Karin warned others “not to go to tea” with Joy as you would end up volunteering for the arts council. A proposition that is very likely true! Joy countered that this was a cheeky remark. lol
