Joy’s husband Don MacFadyen DSO DFC was a decorated R.C.A.F. Edmonton Intruder Squadron flying ace during WWII and a film was made about the heroism of MacFadyen and his buddies. In this portrait painted years later, we see Don proudly presented in his military togs, with his characteristic jaunty smile of congeniality. Joy always referred to Don with very kind devotion and affection.
