Joy was too busy at the time to secure the photos of commission portraits of the family she painted for this businessman. For the record she painted three portraits of his family. Once again the background gives an ethereal and lively nature to the composition but doesn’t take away from the portrait itself. His suit gives him a distinguished appearance along with the kind but firm expression of his face. One has to assume that these considerations are purposeful by the portrait artist, for that is how the piece is imbued with meaning far into the future.
