This is Blinky, one of Joy’s most favourite cats. Joy noted that she used the plant to fill the space and give some balance. It seems that the baseboard, the curve of the carpet and the play of the light are the skillful compositional placements that tie the painting together. We can also note the subtle colouring and the ‘Japanese print angle’ that contribute to this portrait’s distinctive qualities.
