This sculpture has two different sides. The front has a face with one malachite eye, a turned up nose and a rather kissable mouth. Behind it an owl is perched in the hollow of its head. The title of the clay sculpture is “Birdbrain”.

I had it on display once at an Art Guild show and when Robert Hinves saw it he suggested that I donate it to the Guild so that it could be used as an ongoing award. In fact he said he wouldn’t be able to wait for each show to see who would actually win the award. (To tell the truth I think it would be awarded to me every time! )

Thanks for the suggestion, Bob….I’m game if Gary is. You ask him and let me know what he says.

Joy and Robert were obviously having a bit of fun, however, it would be true to say that Joy won endless awards in The Art Guild’s annual exhibition. The ‘Gary’ referred to is Gary Faulkner, a president of The Art Guild and a talented painter and creator himself. The partial but perhaps most important aspect of all this creativity between artists is that a healthy social exchange is created on a constant basis, thereby keeping a healthy and learning culture for all those involved in such inventive groups.
