This Scarborough historical marker, The McCowan Log Home, is located in Thompson Park at Lawrence and Brimley, perhaps familiar to folks who have taken their kids to the playgrounds and other recreational opportunities located in the park. A closer examination of this artifact reveals a history of early Scarborough settlers and in this case a chap named William P. McCowan, who came here as a kid with his parents in

1833. In 1848 he purchased a 100 acres which also included the log house. It was moved from its original site to Littles Road in 1948 and then on to Thompson Park in 1974. Its 1990 restoration has restored much of its original dignity and it stands as one excellent example of Scarborough’s early past.
