Celebration of Joy: Joy and her animals Portraits Assemblages Animal's portraits
Joy and her animals
Joy MacFadyen was a great lover of animals. She had a soft spot for mice and put out food for them, and gave them “secret” places to hid in her backyard. And of course she had a few cats over the years. The backyard was on a ravine and had as a result, all kinds of animal visitors including, racoons, deer, foxes, stray cats, mice, opossums, birds, and any other kind of animals that you can think of. Joy fed them all. It is no surprise that her paintings include portraits of animals. Her own cats over the years became her treasured subjects, but there were also many requests to paint the pets of others and especially commemorative portraits of long-lost pet ‘best-friends’.
There are many photographs in this exhibition and it should be noted that close to all of them were recorded by Joy on her Facebook page. They were accompanied by equally interesting writings which we have used liberally in the comments of this exhibition.
